Farm Details: At the beginning of the 19th century, when coffee production was in its early beginnings in America, without knowing it, two pioneers and entrepreneurs, Alejo C. Jiménez in Costa Rica and Wilhelm Kahle in the south of Mexico, shared the same dream: “To produce the best coffee in the world” to satisfy the new demanding European gourmet market.

Today, descendants of these visionary farmers still produce coffee within the same ideals of excellency and top quality that inspired their ancestors that continue with the tradition in Costa Rica.

The production process starts with the planting of the coffee trees on highly fertile volcanic soil above 1400 meters above sea level (SHB) in 3 different regions from Costa Rica.

Nowadays, the descendants of Don Alejo C. and Don Wilhelm want to further enhance the principles of quality inherited by our founders by adding the value of conservancy of natural resources, through the acquisition of extensions of natural rainforest for its protection and conservation. These facts, not just words, are small actions taken by one family to reduce air contamination and global warming. This is the contribution we want to make to mankind, this is the new awareness we want our future generations to inherit.

Ron Cortez, founder of Cortez Coffee and retired coffee picker, makes friendships with the world's most talented coffee farmers. On average, we pay 3-5x per pound compared to the current fair trade minimum.

roasted in small batches

Every batch is carefully & passionately roasted to bring out each origin's unique characteristics. Our unique air-roaster uses an indirect flame & the power of air to produce incredibly clean coffee with very little smoke contamination. Every batch is vigirously tested in our lab to ensure consistency and memorable taste.

family owned and operated

Our entire production team is ran by the Cortez family. Ron Cortez connects with coffee producers from around the world. His son, Patrick, roasts every batch of coffee. His two younger daughters hope to take over one day. From our family to yours, we promise outstanding coffee that is backed up by our passion and decades of experience in the industry.

Worth the price?

This was the question I asked when a friend of mine posted on a group chat. @ $27/lb is it worth it. He said he thought so. I scoffed…. Only to buy two lbs to try. First pour over was sublime. My wife and I have a new favorite.

It tastes really nice and clean, and quite like the description for the body of the coffee and feel of it in the mouth is lasting.
I’ve made it with my aeropress and French press also (so while not the purist version) the flavours have come out nicely for the morning and afternoon, satisfying after a VERY LONG RUN!
