How to Make the Best Cold Brew at Home - No Filter Needed

If there’s one drink that unites cultures while celebrating their differences, it’s coffee. And while most of us are familiar with cold brew, there’s a new twist that’s gaining traction: Turkish-style cold brew. Bold, smooth, no filter required—and yes, you can make it right at home. It's a method we created about 10 years ago here at our roastery.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to make the best cold brew at home using this filter-free, flavor-rich Turkish method. All you need is finely ground coffee, cold water, a jar, and some patience. No fancy equipment, no filters—just strong, smooth, deeply satisfying cold brew.

Why Turkish-Style Cold Brew?

Traditional Turkish coffee is famous for its strong, thick brew made by simmering ultra-fine coffee grounds in a cezve. But what happens when you take that same fine grind, ditch the heat, and steep it slowly in cold water?

You get a rich, full-bodied cold brew with the unmistakable character of Turkish coffee—but mellowed and smoothed by time. The result? A deeply flavorful coffee with low acidity, perfect for hot summer days (or really, any time you need a cool, caffeinated kick).

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup finely ground coffee (Turkish grind)

  • 3 cups cold, filtered water

  • A splash of water around 205F

  • A glass jar or French press

  • A spoon for stirring

  • (Optional) A fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth for filtering

How to Make Turkish-Style Cold Brew

  1. Add the fine coffee grounds to your jar.

  2. Add a splash of hot water, around 205F, just enough to saturate the coffee grounds. Wait 30 seconds and enjoy the smells of your coffee blooming!
  3. Pour in the cold water, making sure all the grounds are fully saturated.Stir gently to combine.
  4. Cover and let it steep in the fridge for AT LEAST 12–18 hours. 24 hours has yielded us the best flavor if you can wait that long!

  5. Optional: If you prefer a cleaner cup, strain using a fine mesh sieve, cheesecloth, or even a paper coffee filter. We enjoy it with no filter. Most of the grounds will settle at the bottom.

  6. Serve cold, either straight or over ice. Dilute with water or milk if desired.

Filter or No Filter?

Traditionally, Turkish coffee is unfiltered—and this cold brew version follows suit. The grounds settle to the bottom, and you simply pour carefully when serving. But if you’re not into sediment, straining the brew works just as well. It’s your cup, your call.

How to Serve Turkish-Style Cold Brew

Serve it chilled and strong. Be careful, usually Turkish style cold brew is pretty strong! Want a lighter brew? Just splash in some cold water. This cold brew is also amazing with some your favorite creamers or sugars.

Tips for the Best Cold Brew at Home

  • Use high-quality, fresh coffee beans – Turkish-style cold brew shines with rich, complex flavors. Try our freshly roasted specialty grade beans for best results.

  • Grind consistency matters – Turkish grind is ultra-fine, almost like powdered sugar. It’s essential for this method. Grind as finely as possible! If you need to, order our coffee with a "Turkish" grind method.

  • Don’t rush it – Letting your brew steep for at least 12 hours brings out the smooth, bold flavors without bitterness. In our tests, even 24 hours overnight produces some amazing results!
